About this project

FirstCommit is an MCP-powered open-source contribution assistant designed to help beginners overcome the challenges of making their first open-source contribution. Finding the right repository, understanding unfamiliar issues, identifying required skills, and knowing where to start can be overwhelming for newcomers. FirstCommit simplifies this journey by connecting users with real GitHub repository information and issues through six MCP tools. Users can explore repositories, retrieve README files, search and inspect issues, evaluate issue suitability based on their skills and experience, and generate structured, step-by-step contribution roadmaps. With its beginner-friendly interface, personalized suitability assessments, and actionable contribution plans, FirstCommit helps aspiring contributors understand what to work on and how to get started. The goal is to make open-source contribution more accessible, approachable, and less intimidating for everyone. FirstCommit transforms the question "Where do I start?" into a clear path toward making your first open-source contribution.
